John Sevigny is a photographer and teacher based in Chicago. He has worked for international organizations including the Associated Press and EFE News, the official news agency of the Spanish government. His photographs have appeared in the New York Times, the Dallas Morning News, the Houston Chronicle, the Montreal Mirror, the Dallas Observer, El Nuevo Herald, People Magazine, and many other publications. His fine arts work has social and documentary qualities but seeks to break with the formalistic traditions and norms dictated by past and present practitioners of social-documentary photography. His work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Minneapolis, Lisbon, Monterrey, Amsterdam and other cities. He is on the road almost constantly in Latin America and the United States to teach photo workshops, exhibit his work and talk to university students and other groups.
